Judicial Advocacy & Amicus Program

Under the amicus curiae program, League attorneys write "friend of the court" briefs in certain appellate cases that have statewide implications for local governments. League participation requires approval of the League Board of Directors under the adopted amicus policy.

In cases in which we do not file as amicus, the League may also provide technical assistance to municipal counsel in the form of research, help in formulating arguments, editing, and interpretation of appellate rules.

In appropriate amicus and technical assistance cases, the League organizes moot court experiences to help municipal attorneys prepare for oral argument before the court.
